Suction Control Valve

Recommended Posts

OK.  So I'm driving along - like normal - and I notice a slight loss of power and then bang its back.  Later in the afternoon.  The engine management light comes on. I get it checked by the garage and they say something like open circuit on a suction control valve.  We google it and agree it might fix the situation - we get the  code reset and decide to run the car and see if it re-occurs. Next day the car just will not run at all no power whats-so-ever.  Ring the garage on Sat and get it booked in for today.

See first google > https://www.techtips.ie/Blue-Print/toyota-d-4d-suction-control-valve-replacement-1.pdf

The Suction Control Valve is replaced and straight away I notice the same issue - although not as bad.  In either gear the car does want to rev past 3k - its got more power but there is a still an issue.

I have googled and now I am thinking check the ERG valve, change the fuel filter and hoses plus clips?  See google > https://www.aaen.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/CB-SCV-NOV.pdf

Does anyone have any advice??????

Loving the new car........

Thanks in advance.

Stephen

Is the loss of power straight away after just firing up the car, or does it occur at other specific times, e.g., when engine is warmed up?

Hi. Car starts fine the issues seems to occur between 2000 and 3000 rpm in every gear.  Most around 2800 rpm.

Update. Changed the Suction Control Valve but still got the issue. The mechanic pointed out the new part and also a suspect part with a screw in it! He thinks there should be a pipe there but hes not sure where it goes so he has given up and advised i take it to a Toyota specialist?

In the past i have seen parts catalogues for skoda online. Is there a Toyota equivalent?

Cheers

That dodgy part looks like the turbo pressure control solenoid and as far as I can see there's nothing too wrong with it. There are two little tubes coming to it and then the electrical connection.

Actually bringing the car to a specialist is a good idea at this point. Maybe someone here can recommend someone based on your location, going to the dealer should be the last option (although no idea how reputable dealers are in UK).

Finding someone with access to specific Toyota diagnostic software is the way to go, that way they can check a lot of different parameters, run some internal engine tests and quickly determine what isn't working as it should.

Yes I think you were right.  I have been told by Toyota the Suction Control Valves are part of the diesel pump and main dealer only replaces the pump at circa £1300 + 5-6 hours labour!  The Turbo Control Solenoid is only (cough) £354 from the main dealer and there is no after market replacement.  There's one on eBay for £168.  I bought an OBD reader and its confirming fault code P0627 which is a fault related to the SCV.. God knows why the original mechanic replaced the other bit when the fault code was confirmed as P0627 - he even googled it and read the link on how to do it > https://www.techtips.ie/Blue-Print/toyota-d-4d-suction-control-valve-replacement-1.pdf

I have also cleaned the MAS but this did not make any difference.

So can I buy aftermarket SCV's and fit them easily without having to buy a new diesel pump!!  There is a very long 5 page thread about this issue here

So will do some research on buying SCV, fuel filter next I think.

Cheers

Just an update.  It go the suction control valves replaced at Droitwich Diesels.  I ordered these from https://www.pfjones.co.uk/

for about £165 delivered INC VAT.  Our good friends Euro Carp Parts wanted circa £450 - robbers!!!  Fitment and new fuel filter was £66.

The car is fine now!  Hurrah - I am only using premium diesel from now on.

Thanks for you help all.
