Car Alarms...

Ok... my car alarm has been giving me nothing but greif since I got the thing. It's come o the point now where I'm getting seriously annoyed.

There isn't a Cat1 Thatcham approved installation engineer anywhere near where I live ( closest is 35miles away ).

There is somewhere that can fit an alarm, just not Cat1.

I was looking to get a fancy one anyway which isn't thatcham approved.

Curious as to how insurance companys would react if it wasn't thatcham cat1 etc. Dorset are fine, I know that... but others ??

I will be getting the Avital 4400 Alarm/Pager/Engine Start.

found link

The fact that it also has turbo timer capabilites, makes it very nice... :)

I know it's illegal, but pressing a button to start your car ??... sweet !!

Friend of mine has a Clifford (not sure what model but can find out) CAT1 fitted to his Focus RS Turbo. It has intellistart and lot's of other features like sensing the outside temperature and starting the car to stop it freezing, starting the car if the Battery level drops to stop it going flat etc. All sorts of add-ons aswell to connect a mobile phone which alerts you if the alarm is tripped. I thik he paid about £350 with fitting. It's funny seeing peoples faces when he starts it remotely from his top floor flat, just need to make sure it's not left in gear!

Yeah, what id do is ring insurance up and ask them how much difference one alarm would make to another.

You might find the difference is so small that the having the fancy one and all the GASPs and Praises of the fancy alarm outpay what you are paying on insurance

Jimlad, just spoke to mate it is the Concept 600 with intellistart add-on, at the time he got it, which was a while ago, he paid £700! He said that there is a new range now, which I think is what you are looking at and the prices have dropped considerably. The concept range is still available and should be a lot cheaper now. Also his does have the turbo-timer facility on it and you can plug in a laptop to update the software(whatever that does!)
