Hi All,

I just bought a toyota yaris 2008 auto & would like to exactly know how the fuel gauge indicator works please.

If the low warning light starts to flash, what is the distance I can still drive? I read online that a full tank can take the car about 600 km but I get the warning light when I hit about 230 km for half a tank's worth of fuel ( should be about 300 km?)... I don't drive fast & I accelerate slow & it's mostly highway driving. Just want to know in case it's other issues like O2 Sensor etc... Thank you

When the low fuel indicator starts to flash you should refill at your earliest convenience. It usually flashes when there's approx. 5 litres remaining. I personally would not want to use more than 3 of those before refuelling. As for distance left then it all depends on how you drive, terrain, conditions etc. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the information... I'm actually trying to figure out if there's anything wrong with the car ie high fuel consumption, hence the question. Yes I did fill the tank up yesterday & there was about 5 litres of fuel left so I reckon  I don't have an issue with it...

My first round on a full tank of fuel took me about 400km before the low warning light started blinking so I was pretty worried as I have read that it should be somewhere nearer to 600km... I have since sent the car to change engine oil & a few parts as deem required by my long time mechanic & FC has improved.

  • 3 years later...

I filled my tank on my toyota Yaris yesterday and it shows I can only drive 350 kilometers on the full tank but the average petrol use is between 6.5 and 7 kilometers per litre
