2nd Vehicle Insurance

Ok I'm looking into getting a second vehicle for work purposes but my insurers - Liverpool Vic won't allow me to have two car's on one policy as I'm a whisker under 25....

So basically I'd have to have two policys - which is stupid money....anyone got any bright ideas? :( They don't do limited milage & they won't let me add a 'drive any car' clause to my existing policy...Oh & they won't let me use my no-claims on two policys.

Think I'm stuffed basically & this could mean the Paseo will have to go which is just so depressing... :crybaby:

I'm 52 and I had to start a second policy (with no no claims) when I bought a second car so as to reduce the amount of miles I was putting on my MR2.

Basically it seems you can't have two cars on one policy :censor: Stupid or what? Its not as if you can drive them both at the same time is it?? Just another case of rip off Britain as far as I'm concerned.

I think the only way to have multiple cars on one policy is to be a registered car dealer and have a traders policy.

I have 2 policies for my cars too

The insurers for my Audi don't do imports, so I really had no choice than to go elsewhere for the Sera.

On the plus side though (if there ever is one regarding insurance ), the Sera insurance is relatively cheap due to the Audi policy having 10 yrs no claims. I haven't transferred this over, but I used it as a bargaining chip when getting the quotes

There is a way around it but you gotta find out if there is any additional charge.

If you have just changed the vehicle on your policy you can insure you old vehicle for 3-6months (depending on the company) at approx £60 per month so you have time to sell it.

At the end of this period simply swap the vehicle back around making the 2nd vehicle the main vehicle telling them you have decided to sell the one you have just bought thus giving you an additional number of months at £60 per month.

I remember a mate who did this but eventually it was cheaper to insure both seperately rather than keep changing them.

Dunno if this would work now, i would have thought the companies would be wise to it

Thanks for the idea.

The whole situation is stupid, like Kelvyn says you can't drive both cars at once!! :ffs:

You may have to declare limited milegae on 1 or both cars in the attempt to get THE PRICES DOWN.

I agree Si, it seem sdaft to have to have 2 policies to cover the same person with 2 cars......... :arrgg-matey:

..............................

Anyway if anyone has any BRIGHT ideas as to how to con an insurance company into charging you less................

DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY DON'T MONITOR SITE LIKE THIS AND OTHERS AND KNOW EVERY TRICK IN THE BOOK ANYWAY. YOU MAY THINK YOU GET AWAY WITH IT UNTIL THE INVESTIGATOR KNOCKS ON YOUR DOOR............

It's annoying, but not half as bad as having to tax them both.

Nobody drives my cars but me, so there is always one not in use...but they both have to be taxed.......YET if I managed to drive them both at once, I'd be arrested. :P

I went to Lifesure when I bought my import Estima. Not only did they beat everyone else for me and the wife to drive incl. Adrian Flux,Tesco, Direct Line (who I had been with on my other car for 4 years with no claims) but by swapping my Mondeo over to them they gave me a second car discount for the Toyota and put 4 years no claims on that policy aswell, all protected.

Result:

Saved £280 on my Mondeo insurance which had been with Direct Line for 4 years.

Beat all other quotes on the Toyota by minimum of £300.

Policies are exactly the same as I had with Direct Line.

12000 miles pa each vehicle

I couldn't fault them, the policy is with NIG Skania who I have been with before when the wife put my Laguna into a lampost and a wall 5 years ago. Car picked up in half an hour, courtesy car delivered, back in 2 weeks like new after £4800 of repairs. ( wife was ok)

Anyway, it's all good so far.

Thats more like it, need something like that really. :)

Gordy - good point about conning companies.

Can't see it - dunno why I'm clicking it anyway I know what it looks like! :P

I was thinking maybe I could insure the second car in my other halfs name as she doesn't drive anymore - use her 3 or 4 years no-claims to get the quote down - & then have me as a named driver, would I then be covered TPFT? Anyone done this at all?

As a named driver you will get the same benefits as the main driver. I.E. If the policy is FC then you will be covered FC.

Sounds like that might be a cunning plan then...

For some reason I had it in my head that the named driver was only TPFT even if the policy was FC.

Ok - who knows a good place to try who will do a named driver policy & doesn't mind mods - by mods I mean mainly interior ones, i.e stripping it out & adding seats...

Tesco's? Bearing in mind Liverpool Vic will suss me so I can't use them. :arrgg-matey:

Lifesure Brokers specialize in imports, mods etc worth a try and very helpful. Just be honest and they will advise you of the best route. 01480 474604.

P.S. They will probably ask for a copy of your driving licence. This caught me out as I did not initially declare my wifes points but when I owned up they were still very helpful. Just paid an extra £60 (6 points SP30  )

Only had my own policy for 3 years so they assume you can't drive or are lying... :ffs:
