Headlights - Main beam issue

Hi,

I have 2014 plate Auris and the main beam's do not seem to work when the low beams are off. ie I can't flash the main beam, but can flash, if I turn on the low beams. This happens on both lights (Driver & Passenger side).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Since you confirmed that the beams are working, the suspicion falls on the switch on the stalk.

surely if you had a faulty switch then you wouldn't be able to flash the lights at all.

The flash is done by pulling the stalk towards the driver. High beams are engaged by pushing the stalk away from the driver, so not the same switch

Sorry with the slow response, I managed to have another look at the wife's car this weekend.

The main beam does not work when the low beams are on. (ie cannot flash at night). But work fine when low beams are off. This is when you pull the stalk towards yourself.

Tried pushing the stalk away from me, again the main beam does not work. (At all 3 positions - no lights, side lights on , low beams on).

Hi Kam,

Does your car have TSS auto high beam?

If so do you have the lights in the auto position?

on my IS there is a button to turn on Auto Highbeam press this button 1st

then push the high beam stalk to the on position auto high beam is now active

as long as the headlights are turned on you'll be ok

its a pain when you want to use the indicators as the stalk is further away

Another forum member who joins the forum, asks a question, posts a comment one month later,  and then disappears. Kam’s last visit to the forum was December 10th 2018, the date of last post by eygo. I wonder if he got an answer to his problem?
