Hi everyone,

from France with my 2011 RAV4 D-CAT 150 HP 285000 Km bought new whith " white smoke problem" 🤪

i've read all posts and started to make up my mind about where to start

I'm not a mechanic but i'm not bad with my hands and my head, have some tools too...

from my past reading ( before this forum 😉 ) i've already changed the 5th injector for NO RESULT  at all

the easiest for me was to try ANDYD4D solution : wire the faulty injector instead of the new one wich is in place ....

Same result as him : NO SMOKE

to be continued

thanks to the top posters on this topic Treepot, Jeya, Gungod and Lilpopjim , i've learned so much reading you

and thanks to the last posters to continue digging at this very annoying problem

I've had an issue with this solution, engine light on and no lost of power. it seems that the dpf was too cold for the ECU. It happens only in cold weather and rain. maybe only the exhaust heat is not enough, it need the injection from 5th injector to reach the right warm.

(sorry for my english, I'm french 🙂 )

HI Jeya,

Indeed it needs the 5th injector to reach the right Temperature inside the DPF

my problem with white smoke is that the ECU is telling the fifth injector to inject all the time ( every 10mn for 5 mn once my engine is warm ) even in summer

my DPF is new so i'm quite sure it doesn't need any regeneration

my mechanics is going to try to reprogram all injectors , as when installing new one you have to make the ECU know the change

thanks anyway

Hola,

Hi
How do you download updates for the ECU? I don't see the way from the Toyota Tech website.

Thank you all very much

i have contacted toyota on the ECU software update but the answer was : " if there is nothing from Japan to tell us to do so , we can't do it" ...

i did not check the wiring, but i will, and then i'm going to an ECU specialist ...

Hello
According to my Toyota Spain dealer there is no update for my car and they are not aware of the problem.....
Seeing that nothing works, I have started looking for other countries. I know that the anti-pollution regulations are different but...currently I only have to remove the exhaust line,...which is a horror...and see if a carbon deposit appears at the inlet of the particle filter or in the elbow of the cylinder head outlet where my 5th injector goes, the inspection chamber does not enter the curve that the injector follows (it is a verse from the 2011 2.0 126 hp). I leave this in case someone had already checked it before. I tell you all this because the impression it gives me is that it smokes more on steep slopes, and the way it smokes is as if it accumulates the gas in a corner of the exhaust and I then poured it in at once, saturating the particle filter.

They are for models other than ours, but anyway...that's the problem...
When I dismantle it I'll tell you

Excuse my bad English
All the best
