Oil maintenance required

Hi. Wondering if anyone can help. I've got a Toyota avensis 2010 Estate and yesterday the oil maintenance required warning came on. I checked the oil and plenty. It was serviced in March which included oil change and I've only done 8000 miles since then. Just wondering why it would have come on. Any help would be great

when you say "plenty", was it by any chance over the full mark? (this could be caused by diesel getting into the oil via DPF if fitted)

I believe when I checked the oil level was just above the max mark for oil level. How would I go about checking if it is diesel getting into the oil? I'm guessing my local garage would be the place to start. I reset the warning light incase the garage hadn't done it on the last oil change, so am I correct in thinking that if their is a problem that warning light will come back on. Thank you for your help.
