Massive drop in milage with New WLTP test

Toyota suffers a massive drop in milage with the new WLTP test procedure.

Most models, Auris hybrid included, drops something like 25-27%. My own 1.2 with CVT is even worse, and drops from 21,2 km/liter to 14,8 km/l.

Any day, summer or winter, I can do better than 14,8, even with a cold engine. It's a shame, that Toyota suddently is average, rather than premium high end.

Not just Toyota though. The NEDC test results had almost become a laughing stock though because they were outdated, being so comprehensively gamed by the manufacturers & bore so little comparison to real word results (although they usually were achievable within the same profile/parameters that manufacturers were using if you were able/willing to).

The WLTP is supposed to be more reflective of normal road use but even then they aren't expected to match real world results for most people (& just wait, the manufacturers will no doubt learn how to tweak for this test). http://wltpfacts.eu/wltp-discrepancy-laboratory-road-performance-cars/ Some people will be able to beat the WLTP results though depending upon their driving profile/style/weather conditions.

European lawmakers have approved a plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions from cars by 20 percent by 2025 and 40 percent by 2030.

Due to these plans/requirements all manufacturers now will be interested in providing higher emission figures to make it easier to meet the -40 percent requirement at 2030.
