Cd Player + Tape Deck At The Same Time?

Alright guys,

I had a tape deck originally and decided to install a aftermarket cd player, which i managed easily enough :) . But I was left with the situation were I cant use the tape deck because of using the wires for the cd player.

Now there must be away of being able to choose one or the other, weither it is a textbook solution or one which you have managed to create could someone suggest away how to do it.

Now i was thinking of connecting both the tape deck and cd player to a set of switches and having a external switch which meant i could switch to tape, leaving the cd player isolated and vice versa, what you think??.

Now it sounds good in theory but aint sure about practice. What exactly is stopping me from doing using both.

Some one here must know how to do it??

Cheers

easiest way is to use the toyta cd player, or use the facia adaptor and fit a jap style twin DIN headunit

Even if i managed to make the tape deck radio work that would be a great help.

Now you always get the guys who say why bother, etc. Now you can apply that to most topics here.

Its cause i aint the only person driving the car and if the flip down front is with me then its a very quiet car and it just makes sense, if you have both tape and cd, why not try and use them both.

cheers for your time

DO NOT USE 2 HEADUNIT AT THE SAME TIME especially when they are using the sames speaker

both headunit will heat up very fast and the engine will sound as if it is struggling

I know that his sounds stupid and totally against what most folk on TOC would say, but what about getting the Toyota CD player that will plug into the standard audio system if you take the aftermarket one out?

Cheers,

Alan

alanbradley: would that mean i can use both cd player and tape deck?

vmail:1) what if i got different Speakers for the cd player.

2) why would the engine sound as if it is struggling if using 2 units?

cheers

thanks chappers,

also the tape player had three section of wires and my cd player only need two, the one with the blue plug and the small white plug. What does the third big white plug do and does it matter if i leave it in the tape deck.

Um, yeah. The player would fit in where the change tray is and you then switch between them using the "Tape:CD" button up by the display. The radio buttons will also function as controls for the CD player. That's the way my Toyota MD changed works anyhow...

Cheers,

A

Nice choice of engine btw...

I dont know the wiring of the car but when I had my aftermarket headunit and toyota cd headuit installed and using the same speaker(only the aftermarket headunit was swiched on)

so there must of been a short somewhere or too much current is being used

do you really want tape, with cd you have got better quality sound (and now headuits can read cdrw and MP3/wma)

Alright, i like the idea of a double DIN unit and some of the other suggestions given, but i just bought ma aftermarket cd player and i have a tape player already and it just makes sense to try and use them both.

Now i dont really want to spend any more money than neccessary so a double din unit is not much help and depending on toyota prices i dont know about there cd player,

so if any one can tell how i can use my original tape deck and aftermarket cd player that would be great, and if i cant do it can you tell me why.

Cheers thanks for the suggestions

just dont use tape, simply use the aftermarket headunit

when you sell the car, put the old tape unit in and keep the aftermarket headunit for the new car

do you have a massive collection of tapes? (use them at home instead)

I understand what you saying, yeah i got alot of tapes, i aint got time and effort to put them on cd, and i have the tape already there so i want to use it.

I'm not bothered about when i sell the car etc i can buy another player for ma car cause by then the model i have would be old. (i aint planning on selling the car anytime soon.

cheers

fit them both in, and start the car

turn both systems on, if they dont heat up in 2 mins and the car doesnt sound like its going to stall then you should be ok
