Avensis fog light switch

2008 D4D - failed MOT due to fog light switch not operating reliably - this is the spring loaded rotary collar switch on the indicator stalk. Fronts come on go off ok but rear which is the momentary final twist of the switch sometimes works sometimes doesn't both for on and off. Sounds like it activates a latched relay so wondered if anyone has experience with this and is it simply the stalk switch or something else?

Change the stalk switch. It's not difficult to do, having done the same for my previous Avensis, a few years back. Dismantling the stalk is too difficult, so swapping is no brainer. 

It will be secondhand, unless there is a super deal on new or rebuilt units. Also make sure it is the same spec, as there are versions for cars without front fogs. Hopefully the replacement is in better condition, as yours has an unusual fault.
