I followed @TonyHSD instructions and the creaking noises had stopped. A lot of dirt was stucked there. It's a really easy job since the lower suspension arm is easy accessible, everyone can do it. I've used WD40 Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant: https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-40-Specialist-44217-Lasting-Grease/dp/B00KMRDEMW/

To access the right suspension arm, you have to turn the wheel max to the left.

To access the left suspension arm, you have to turn the wheel max to the right.

I have attached a picture where you should lubricate. Hope it helps.

Toyota cars sometimes cracks from steering column, you get that only over sharp bumps or potholes when driving slow, this can be from dried out lube on the telescopic shaft of the column or the gear set, you may want to try to move the wheel up and down holding it at 12:00 and 6:00 a clock position and see if there is any play and clicks, repeat the same holding it at 03:00 and 9:00. For the bushes only silicone spray, never use any petroleum one like the standard wd-40 ah those are even bad for rubber. Spray nicely both sides. I do at least once a year that and have no problems for long time afterwards. 👍

I have this squeaky rubber/gas noise when go over speed bumps, thought it was just rubber stops on top of the strut piston.

I'll have to pay attention next time.

This WD40 grease is it rubber safe?

Hi,

wd-40 silicone spray with yellow cap is safe for rubber, the other standard one with red cap it’s not, may cause rubber swelling and further damage to rubber bushes. Here is the one that can be safely used. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193384454536

Anyone know what device member Abradders34 may have used to record the Vimeo example of his creaking suspension?

I too have heard this a couple of times so great to hear the advice given on the lubricants.

I have been trying to record my odd brake/transmission noise issue but my Motorola phone doesn't  get it clearly enough

You need to change the brake fluid every 2 years.  You can use Toyota DOT 5.1 on any car with DOT3 or 4, it has lower friction and last longer, better for seals too.  I replaced the rear stabilizer links rubber part for 40 euros, the original Toyota links cost more than 140 euros.  They wear out pretty fast because it is only natural rubber.   I heard dribbling noise from the back of the car but it is from inside/cabin, not from outside or suspension related problems.   Sound like something rattling only on small humps and uneven road.  I thought it was my stabilizer links, but it is not, so I just live with it. All things are tight and even 3 mechanics found nothing wrong on the suspension. Everything is good and interior noise is just annoying, not safety issue.

Yes, Toyota should replace it. Some prius have these problems and get it fix for free as a recall program.  But not sure about auris.  Both cars share many same components

My Auris from 2010 steering column clicks a bit in certain conditions since I had the car back in 2015 , over 130k miles done by myself and 43k previously the problem still there but has not worsened, perhaps it’s dried out lube, happened to 6 months old Prius with only 14k miles previously therefore not be bothered to repair or replace. Sometimes small niggles are better left alone if not safety issues. 👍

There is a safety issues, that's why Toyota recalls the steering column in 2nd. and 3rd Gen Prius, because it may not turn when you want to turn. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-toyota-recall-prius-idUSBRE8AD09A20121114

This is very different recall.

IF your problem is a loose steering column, not the bolts that hold the rack and column, that's not a recall.  It is just the steering column need some new grease or just replace it. That one is not a safety issue. Very common in 2004-2009 Sienna too.

That’s the one, but doesn’t bothered me much since only in certain scenarios can be felt or heard. 👍
