Just saw this video from a YouTuber driving an Avensis estate.

I just came across this YouTube video -

I found it entertaining with some valid points. I would like to know if James was operating the car correctly when the stop/start function was active. He said the parking brake does work well with thee stop/start. Go to 9:41 where James explains what is happening.
I am aware of the warning beeps, having recently driven the Yaris Hybrid.

Anyway watch the video and see if you agree with points made.

P.S.
He drove the 1.6 diesel variant.

I agree with most of what he says.

I bought the 1.8 petrol estate and intend to keep it long term.  Some of the annoying beeps can be turned off.  The rest, I can adjust to.
e.g. the clock with miniscule digits that disappears when the engine is off.  I bought a round, analogue clock which is visible all the time and is stuck to the top of the dash.

The problems are typical for most modern vehicles.  You could buy a classic but then you would have endless maintenance problems.  Also, who really wants to be without fuel efficient engines, ABS and airbags?

He didn't think very hard about the "logic trail" for the way that the EPB button works. If it worked the other way & you inadvertently pressed the button in whatever way/for whatever  reason whilst sitting you would release the handbrake - this way you actually would apply it.

Only the BMW-derived diesels have stop/start on the Avensis so I have no experience with it but he was manually setting& releasing the EPB - I wonder if he had let it auto-release it would have been OK?

Being on my 2nd Avensis with an EPB I can categorically say that you don't need  hill start with an EPB (2012 didn't have it, 2017 does - but I don't use it even manually releasing).

Whilst I have had the collision alert flash red many times (mostly I understood why & had it already covered but sometimes I can't work out why it flashed)  I have never yet had the car actually apply the brakes. If the car has satnav it has 2 different places it will tell you the speed limit (assuming that you haven't turned off the  speed sign assist).

He's obviously a bit of a lazy driver not prepared to change gears to drop into the power/torque band.

& as has been said both by him & Chris (welcome to TOC 🙂 )  you can disable most of these things.
