Black Box?

Does anyone know what the little black box is on the passenger side near the centre consul?

It’s stuck underneath the foot well area and has a button on it with a plus and minus sign for some sort of adjustment.

Mine suddenly appeared as it had come unstuck, it’s now back in position and has a cable tie to keep it in place.

I'd like to think that the ECU is secured a bit better than that.

Can't see why the ECU would have buttons on it either.

Basically......dunno mate. - but someone will.!

Had another look this morning as there is better light!

I believe it’s something to do with the alarm due to the fact it has TVSS on it (Toyota Vehicle Security System)

It’s only a small black box about 2 ½ inches in diameter, my next question is what does the adjustment dial adjust?

Cheers all

It could be to adjust the sensitivity.

I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows for sure though

It adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor that detects movement inside the car.

Hi I've been looking on my phase 1 t sport, as I had long wondered whether I did indeed have interior alarm protection - as i haven;t been able to set it off!

Anyway, found the black box, with the following part number on it:

08192-00920

Model 5460

Delta Electronics

A bit of googling found me this page, http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:ECZ2WM_...p;client=safari

And from this page I can conclude that I do indeed have the interior movement sensors on my alarm.

However, I can't get it to go off!

I double lock the car with the window down, wave my arm around, but nowt!

No I wonder if it might be the case that the sensor has been turned right down (i.e. off) but I did twiddle it upwards a bit, and still nothing.

So my question is:

Is there a set amount of time I have to wait for the interior sensors to activate?

How sensitive is the alarm? Does it have to be right up to max to be any good?

Also, as the adjustment control is rubbery, it seems a little bit awkward to turn - plus I can't see any kind of mark on it - is there a mark on it to show what setting it is on??

Thanks for your help and I hope these part numbers and web link are helpful to someone!!

It's between 30 seonds and a minute before the interior sensors activate, any movement detected before then and they automatically switch off. If you listen carefully you'll hear a tiny beep when it's on.

That'd probably explain why leaning into my mates celica to grab my camera, right after he locked it with the windows down = no siren (Thank goodness, they are LOUD!!! )

also I wonder if it doesn't set the sensors if the windows are down..... ?
