Avensis 2012 1.8 petrol auto estate.

when driving some times the engine shoots up to full revs and i have to put the car in neutral and turn the engine off. I then restart and some times it does it again.I have checked to see if the car mat has moved and it has not. This obviously dangerous when on the road and would appreciate any advice.  thanks Phil.

You need a live diagnostic scan done on the car. This will monitor everything like the throttle position sensors at the pedal and throttle body. Since the engine is Valvematic other components could be causing the problem. Check all the connections.

I would either see an auto electrician, somebody with fairly good diagnostics or Toyota.

I have my own diagnostics, because cars are getting complicated. It's handy to have one.
