Oil Dipstick difficult to read

Hi,

Long time lurker, thanks for having me.

Servicing my wife's 1.0L automatic, I found the dipstick one of the most difficult to read. Always seems to leave a trace up the one side.

Doesn't matter for the time being as I drained, replaced filter and replaced with 0W20 via an accurate measuring jug according to the specifications.

Anyone else have this problem?

Agree with you entirely - very difficult to read. Relies on pouring in the right amount using measuring jug.

Yes, that's what I've been doing. But topping up is a nightmare, it's like guesswork. Probably drain and top up every year as a precaution instead.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Isn't just me going mad then 🙂

I change my oil every 4000 miles, (0w20 oil is cheap at 50% discount from Euro car parts) and its always a pain, the oil level is nearly impossible to see.

Just use a piece of paper towel, pull dipstick out and keeping the dipstick vertical, put the tissue against the dipstick and you will see the true level.

I use a Pela 2000 to suck the oil out of the dipstick tube (have done all my cars this way for 10 years and no messy oil spilt ever), with a filter change as well it never takes more than 15 minutes.

I've never been able to see it cheap. Where do you get you 50% discount?

Just by chance came here to check for any threads on this.  500+ miles to Brighton and back over the Bank Holiday weekend and thought I'd check the oil.  Hard to read dipstick ss an understatement!

Thats a cheap price for 0w-20 oil - a bargain.

Yes agree, I'm educated to it now. Used to buying generic oil for generic cars at half that price so thought it was expensive, but having had a quote for £80 or more, £23 is a bargain.
