Hi,

I have a yaris 1.0 vvti 1999 and I have never change the power steering fluids.

The mechanic does not know where is the plug below the car and I cannot find it in Haynes book.

Do you have any suggestion???

Thank you in advanced!

Electric power steering was an option on the mk1 base model. How do we know he has the base model?

When I had my April 1999 1.0 CDX, that had fluid power steering , as the pump for this was at the top of the engine on the left, and driven by the serpentine drivebelt that I had to replace once, needing the longer drivebelt with it also having A/C.

Later Mk1 cars had the power steering pump deleted and EPS installed. As far as I was lead to understand, the Jap built models (JTD serial VIN numbers) from 1999 - 2000 had fluid pumped power steering, with most later models 2001 onwards built in France (VNK serial VIN numbers) having electric motor assisted steering (EPS)

Attached is a photo of my old 1999 Yaris, showing the power steering fluid reservoir on the left of the engine bay, at the front, with the round black plastic filler cap clearly visible.
