Avensis Verso D4d T3

I've just ordered a new Avensis Verso D4D T3 from my local Toyota main dealer. I have yet to test drive one as they are finding it difficult to obtain one (though I have tested the Corolla Verso - wasn't big enough!). However I have been reading some reviews about the car (i.e. whatcar and topgear) and they haven't been exactly inspiring or flattering which concerns me.

I got £1250 off of the car plus a free set of mats.

What I am mainly after is reliability as I currently own a Fiat Multipla that has broken down 3 times in 3 years, each time resulting in lengthy stays with the garage.

Am I making the right choice? Do I have any come back if, when the the car arives, I don't like it or it's not for me?

Many thanks in advance :help:

I've owned an Avensis Verso D4D for 3 years (from new) now and apart from one problem which I will post after writing this I have had zero problems with the car. It has proven utterly reliable and has taken us abroad on holidays as well as doubling as a delivery/pickup van. I am slightly shocked after reading the various forums, abput the number of serious faults that other owners are having with their supposedly reliable Toyotas, but I would say, based on my experiences that you are buying a good car.

All the best

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2003 D4D Verso. I am extremely pleased with it and so far, I have had no problems at all...

I get about 40 mpg around town...

Hi,

I am the owner of a 10,000 mile old Avensis Verso TSpirit petrol and I have to agree with the previous posters that it is a great car.

If I was to quibble, I would say that with one person in, the suspension tends to crash and bang over potholes, but 3 or 4 up, it is a more comfortable ride.

The engine roars a bit if you boot it, but cruise around and it is quiet enough. In fact when I first got it, I thought it had stalled a couple of times at the lights.

I have the Automatic so fuel consumption is not too hot at 26mpg round town and 33-35 at 60-70 on the motorway.

The interior is a bit dull, but it has lots of toys and is very comfortable to drive. I have done a couple of trips to France, fully loaded with 6 adults and had no complaints from the passengers.

It holds the road way better than my Galaxy it replaced and I have yet to get the VSC to beep at me. It actually feels like a saloon in that respect.

The only problem I have had with it that required it to go back to the dealer was the radar sensor on the alarm didn’t work from new but that was replaced without any problems.

Hi, could you please check (maybe you did?) an acceleration (recuperation) from 50 to 75 mph? Of course it's an automatic gear but one can get an opinion about power and "elastcity" of AVerso's petrol engine. I am very curious 'bout that and can't find no data around the Net. Maybe other AVerso owners could test it too?

BTW. I am glad reading that car is so reliable - I've just booked a new one and can't stand waiting for it arrived :)

Thx

T.

Hi,

I have a 2003 verso d4d. Purchased in february. Fantastic vehicle apart from the fact that the water pump has just failed at 19000 miles. This is very suprising as I had heard that this vehicle was very reliable. Hopefully this is is going to be a rare event! The warranty will cover it luckily!

I would still recommend it though. Very good on fuel and I find it excellent to drive.

Hi There

I've got the previous incarnation, a 2002 D4D, again utterly reliable.

However, cars are complex things with thousands of moving parts (the ones that break ! ), and a couple of things will stack the reliability odds in your favour.

Firstly stick to the servicing AND weekly checks like glue - falling oil levels, slow punctures and expiring parts often give some warning and for the sake of a couple of minutes once a week you will detect and fix problems early. Also if you then do have to go back to the dealer, they will appreciatte your detecting the problem earlier (i.e. less expensive), and respect you for your obvious knowledge of the car (difficult to fob you off)

Secondly let the motor warm up before using all the rev range. Screaming the nute off a stone cold engine is an easy way to knacker it, the D4D you should let idle for 10 seconds before driving off. Gives you a chance to put on seat belt, check mirrors / vision etc.

So far 42K trouble free miles

Enjoy !
