Hi. Just bought Auris 1,2T 2015 version model. Manual says, use 0W-20 motor oil. If 0W-20 is not available, use 5W-30.

But after use 5W-30, change to 0W-20. How can I know if 30€ 0W-20 is good than 70€ 0W-20? Shell, Mobil 1, Castrol? This car is not hybrid.

Check your owners manual for speechified range of oil weights you can use.

Using 0W20 should give you the best lubrication and mpg, but in terms of both, differences betwen using 0W20 and 5W30 are negligible .

You will be fine using 5W30, personally i put Champion 5W30 in mine, mostly because local garage keeps it.

Get a liter extra, for topping up.

Since Optimal Drive petrol engines were introduced from 2008, Toyota's preferred oil for these has been 0W-20. Oil used should meet either API SL, SM or SM.

Certainly my two petrol Auris and current Aygo have all been run on 0W-20 from new.

Hybrids have also used 0W-20, and the latest ones (2019 Corolla for example) use 0W-16.

Do you need to update your profile to include the Auris.

I personally stick with the correct grade/specification for my 2009 Avensis 1.8 Valvematic - 0w-20, as stated in the owner's manual.
Every oil change apart from the first where I used Triple QX 0w-20 fully synthetic, Petronas Syntium 7000 fully synthetic 0w-20 grade, all from Euro Car Parts. I used the ECP eBay site and paid only £22.99 for 5 litres. It takes a few days for delivery, but a massive saving.

With a complicated engine like the 1.2T, you would want the best and recommended protection!
