Dynamic cruise control and road signs

If the 2019 corolla is in dynamic cruise control and you are travelling at 70mph will it automatically slow to 60mph if it detects a 60mph speed limit like on the new smart motorways

If it works like the new RAV4 DRCC, no.

What the RAV4 does does (which the last version on my previous 2016 Prius didn't) is allow you to use the Road Sign Recognition.

When the speed limit changes and is correctly recognised by the RSA, a box is shown around the speed limit symbol on the dash with an arrow at the top if the speed limit is higher than the set speed, and at the bottom for lower speed limit.  Holding the stalk or button in the Increase position for a second or two if it's pointing up will change the set speed to the speed limit.

For example, if my Set Speed is 40 mph in a 40 limit and I pass a 60 sign, the symbol on the dash changes to 60, the box has an up arrow.  So if I press and hold the + button on the steering wheel (my previous Toyotas had a stalk for CC) the set speed is changed to 60 mph.

A slight fly in the ointment is when entering an area with a lower limit.  For example, changing from 60 to 30, the RSA recognises the 30 limit as it passes the sign, so adjusting using the above method means you pass the 30 sign at 60, once you've changed to set speed to 30 the CC system applies brakes to reduce speed, but you'll probably be 30 or 40 yards (or metres) into the new limit zone before being legal - not something I'd want to do if I had a Police car behind me!

Fortunately the updated version 2 of Safety Sense seems to read speeds more reliably than the previous versions - most users I know of have turned RSA off before.

Yes, the same system exists on the Corolla. Page 303 of the manual.

I guess these manuals are for usa and Canada models.

 

I did notice those models have a handbrake lever whereas the uk model has an electronic handbrake control which is applied and released when moving into P and back to D or R

Oh yes, sorry. I just checked my browser history and assumed that was correct. Your link doesn't work though as it as some forum stuff appended. The correct link is this. The correct manual is called OM12L35E.pdf and that describes the Cruise Control starting at page 295. I downloaded the manual locally several months ago.

And as Sidrat posted, it's 640 pages long.

If yours is shorter, perhaps it's just the reference manual. There's also a separate manual for the infotainment system called OM12L60E.PDF.

I'm sure the system must also use info from the Satnav, I go into a village on my way to work and the signs change to 30 MPH, almost immediately I turn off and they change back to national speed limit, the on-board system ignores this and continues to display 30.  After about .5 mile it changes to 30 again, it does not matter in which direction I am travelling it always displays 30, on some satnavs this road is tagged as 30 over the whole length!    I have noticed in a few places it ignores the road signs .

Yes, I've got that impression too.

It also seems to know when the national speed limit sign means 60 (single carriageway) and 70 (dual carriageway).  I find it hard to believe the camera 'sees' whether it's a dual carriageway or not.

I must say the RSA also seems much more reliable than the version 1 I had in my 2016 Prius until last Friday (in fact, I switch RSA off as it was inaccurate at least 30% of the time, and most other owners I conversed with did the same).

Yeah, I think it combines camera with sat nav. Rather oddly while going down this hill it shows a motorway symbol 😕

I mean, yes, the M40 is at the bottom of the hill but it seems a rather daft thing to say while still on an A-road.
