W London independent specialist mechanic recommendations?

Hello,

Anyone have good experience of independent Toyota specialists in west London (near Ealing)? I have a 2009 3rd generation Prius with 98000 miles.

Having run fine since I bought it last year, one day the continuous warning noise came on, the Electric Power Steering (EPS) warning light and ABS warning light come on, the display says 'Check Hybrid System' and the speedometer doesn't work (displays '0'). Got it checked by breakdown service who said was save to drive, so drove it to local Toyota dealer who say its a computer problem and needs a replacement Actuator which will cost £2,800 new to buy new. Given the age of the vehicle this seems huge amount, so I'm hoping for second opinion from someone who knows what they're doing. I'd be content to install a good quality used part, but the dealer won't do this.

I'm a newbie on this forum, any advice gratefully received!

Before doing anything else, check the 12 volt Battery isn't knackered. This can cause all manner of weird electrical problems if low on charge.

If it is this, then it is a relatively cheap fix.

It is most likely to be the cause if the Battery is over five years old, if you do a lot of short journeys, or have let the Battery get fully discharged (lights left on, holiday parking etc.).

It may also be worth trying another dealer. Some are a lot better than others.

Good luck
