I understand that the B on the selector acts like engine braking and  helps with hill descents.

Does selecting B also increase the amount of power going back to the Battery

If true can you select B when coming to a stop when normal cruise would not slow you in time to stop or would normal braking have the same effect on charging rates

Hi, yes you can use B to slow the car down at faster rate than if you just release the accelerator and you don’t want to press the brake pedal but that is not ideal because when you press the break pedal you are doing exactly the same, the car slows down with the electric motor and recharges the Battery or if you press harder then the car uses break force from the actual break system to stop the car. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for example and some other hybrids has options to set up to your preference that kind of regeneration, so if you prefer quickly slow down and more regenerates  or let it cruise and less power goes to the Battery but Toyota does it for you and you don’t need to switch between D & B all the time. B it’s useful when going down the hill slowly in icy conditions will hold the car or when you are going down hill continually for a mile or two and you want your foot to rest and not holding the brakes all the times. I haven’t see yet if the new Corolla has the hybrid dial instead of the RPM like a standard car, check in your settings and if you can switch to hybrid dial like Camry or previous Auris than you can do that and watch how the car reacts and you will see exactly what is going on when slowing down. This hybrid dial it’s much more useful than the one you have set with rpm’s.

The Corolla has an equivalent as part of the electronic display only it is linear instead of the gauge as you have but works the same.
