Hello all,

I have a 2012 Yaris 1.5L Hybrid, I have just purchased this vehicle from another guy near my town.

I am facing a strange yet weird issue in the car, whenever there are 3 or more persons in the car, suddenly the car's hybdrid system goes off and the car goes to safe mode and runs only on gasoline, then I have a disconnect the Battery terminal grip for few minutes to reset the ECU.

I am attaching the pic of the speedometer as well.

I see the engine management light is on, identifying the fault code, and eliminating that is a start

Is that 34 degree centigrade I see on the dash. That’s excessive, could that have anything to do with your problem.

Yes, 34 degree centigrade it is, sometimes it goes above 40 as well, I don't think the problem is due to temperature because the most times the car got this issue was in night when the temperature was around 25 degree

Have you checked the Hybrid Battery cooling fan filter? If this is blocked the Hybrid Battery gets too hot and the Hybrid control system reduces the use of the Battery to protect it.

  • Thanks 1

Can you please guide me how to locate it?

In the LHR footwell there is an air intake under the rear seat,

lift the rear seat base ( needs a sharp tug )

remove the trim clips holding the air intake trim

There will be a gauze filter behind the intake, pop it off and clean

If there is no gauze filter follow the air pipes back the cooling fan, remove & clean the fan.

Hi, if the filter etc is clean, it could be whoever is sitting in rear seat is blocking the inlet (with a handbag or similar) somehow.
