Corolla Verso 2.0 d4d dies when idling

Hi,

Loving our old Corolla Verso (year 2004/5) but had a problem for about a year. It generally runs like a dream at all speeds but has a tendency to randomly cut out / die when idling. My wife experiences it on short trips with cold engine but we now also experienced it with warm engine on the way to Italy. When driving down the motorway and the pressing the clutch to stop the engine dies.

I have cleaned the EGR and had a mechanic run a cleaning of the engine and change oil just before we left and there were no error codes when he checked.

In Italy now and wondering if it is ok to drive back to DK 🙂

Any ideas for what is wrong?

thanks

My initial thoughts would be to check or replace the fuel filter, check the high pressure fuel pump and suction control valve on it, then try to see if the exhaust system including the turbo is partially restricted.
