Problem with too high idle, what to do?

Hi there!

I have a Toyota Avensis 1.8 liter engine, from 1999, with too high idle speed. Any suggestions for how to fix this yourself??

The engine runs fine except for too high idle, no matter if cold or not.

Please let me know. Thanks!

When I got my Corolla 1.4 it was doing that, idle about 1500-1600rpm, and it turned out to be a sticking Idle Air Control valve (IAC) in the throttle housing.

Strip down, clean, reassemble.. sorted!

Idle Air Control Valve sticking or vacuum leak/leaking gasket.

Hi guys!

Thanks for the replies! We had bought another used full throttle-house but experienced the same problem.

It turned out that the Idle Air Control Valve was stuck, probably on both!

After cleaning our original one with a break-cleaner the idle is now perfect!
