Car is running so rough its undriveable. Rough and poor engine performance, surging and bucking under various throttle loads, increased fuel consumption and misfiring

The plugs, coil and fuel injector have all been replaced and made no difference

Help please? Im at a loss what else it could be?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Fault lamp lit?  If so, what are the codes?

The check engine light is on. Cant remember without checking again what the actual code was but it came up with a problem with cylinder 2

Could be a valve problem.  Try a compression test.

Had a compression test done. Was slightly down on 2 cylinders but not enough to cause the misfire. The bloke that's been looking at it is a Ford man and that's reached his limit of knowledge on Toyota's

What now?

Try swapping the plugs ,etc around to see if the problem migrates with the move.

Otherwise, I'd suspect the EGR.

Had this problem on our Rav 2002 petrol and it turned out to be the MAF (Mass air flow) sensor.

Started off driving ok then started playing up when it got warm, no acceleration, jumping, then it would run ok for a bit.

You can try cleaning the small wire inside with a cleaner but don't soak it else it will be knackered all together. I tried cleaning but it was still no good so had to replace with a new one, think it was £115.
