Avensis Blue Exhaust Smoke

Hello All,

Hope someone can offer some advice please😫

i have a 2010 T4 Toyota Avensis estate and every time I accelerate up a hill blue smoke flows out of the exhaust!

it happens intermittently and can not happen for weeks then it starts again

I've seen much newer Avensis cars do the same thing with blue exhaust smoke

I've read it could be pistons but mechanics have done a brief check (not thorough) and found nothing

I've tried Wynn’s diesel cleaner, changed to V power but it’s still happening

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Andrew, welcome to TOC 🙂

if it is genuinely blue then that is usually oil being burned. If it is white that is most often DPF-related (e.g. a regeneration).

Under load blue smoking simple answer over filled with oil ,not so simple answer ,turbo seals , piston rings ,also check the engine breather circuit .

Ours does it too...so long as it isn’t an everyday thing...relax...maintain it on time and use good quality oils and fuels and it should be fine. There was a software update at one point regarding this issue or am I mistaken? Maybe somebody else could input on it. I’m sure we had it done at the dealers under warranty. Best of luck.

Thank you all for the advice 👍🏿

i’ve recently read in the forum it could be the ECU or a injector problem

i’ll visit My local garage to have these checked

This seems like a common problem for the T27 D4D. Would be good to know the result.
