total rubbish mate

cabriolet was a concept car a few years back and was deemed never to go into production

also toyota dont know how to build a 'proper' sports hatch back these days so youll never see a 2ltr in one

in fact youll never see the 1.8 in one.................well not yet anyway :P

in fact you'll never see the 1.8 in one

I drove one - 189bhp, 1.8ltr - about 2 1/2 years ago. It was built by the ex-Brabham F1 team, then known as Activa, for parent company Yamaha (5% owned by Toyota) to show off to Toyota R&D big brass in Japan along with such toys as a semi-active suspension for Supra and IS200. The Yaris also had the trick suspension.

Of course, history relates that it never got the go ahead. From what I recall it was a bit more dramatic to drive than the turbo, but not hugely. Had to be LHD due to manifold trying to occupy same space as steering column on RHD.

As to why no rip-snorting sports cars the answer is simple - emissions. We're on a commitment to hit an average emission level of all cars being sold by 2010 of 140g/km of CO2. Put another way, by then the average has to be Prius level, hence for every sports car or 4x4 we need to balance with small cars (cue next year’s smaller than Yaris car so far only known by code name B Zero). Tough target, but any car company failing to meet it will face heavy fines and possibly huge public shame. Boring, but important

So that Activa was real then as there were rumours as it was fake etc.:ph34r:

So Rob, does that mean you won't be able to do the 2ZZ-GE conversion..... :o

oh no looks like it :(

ahwell ill just turbo it instead!

ok ok so big fines for polluting the already nackered atmosphere!

TBH theres only monkey greenpeace likes that ask for that rubbish! we want sportscars! with big engines and twin turbos!

fossil fuel will be gone in 10 years and cars will be running clean and abundant hydrogen/electricity hybrid engines!

Yeah. this has been discussed on other forums. It looks fine but a bit too "cute" IMHO.
