Sound system upgrade/downgrade

Hi,

I have a 2015 Auris 1.2T Business Edition with the Touch 2 radio/sound system. It's very functional but I don't like the low volume (I usually listen to Radio 4 or Classic FM), and often had to use maximum volume while driving on the motorway. Also, the volume control as I prefer the older knob - as I have to go from volume level 3x to 5x if I go from 30mph to above 60.

I would like to change the stereo but there are 2 concerns:

  • As the radio screen is part of the car's computer system, it also shows changes made to the climate control and details about last trip(s). Would it generate an error code if I get an aftermarket alternative?
  • Would it show big gaps on the bezel as the aftermarket system does not have the same display dimensions?

Bottom line - I don't really care about the extra info from the stereo screen, having android carplay on the stero would be more useful.

Search for "Auris radio fascia" or similar to get a fascia to avoid gaps. They look to be really expensive for the Auris though, at least from a quick look on eBay UK.

In relation to your concerns...

As far as i know...you should not get any error code by changing the oem headunit. The only downside is that the settings that might be available there, off course wont be vailable to you after you've changed to an aftermarket headunit. So....in my book...it all comes down to if you are willing to loose the settings and/or info you have in your particular car? 🙂

The best looking fascia I've seen for this Auris is the CT23TY42 fascia from Connects2. Not the cheapest one, i agree...but it is the best looking one I've seen for this car...so far 🙂

Thanks for your relpies. One more question - will I lose steering wheel control (volume, skip tracks) if I fit a different stereo unit? Or are there any models which are compatible?

All known...and most unknown..brands will work with the buttons on the steeringwheel, but beware that in most cases you'll need an interface  for this..such as Connects2's CTSTY002.2.

Have you spoken to Toyota dealer about this. Maybe you can get a replacement as I believe the car is under its manufacturing warranty before replacing the head unit.
