Hi guys i just purchased above car today and i was wondering if someone could help me out. Im aware this car has active head restraint. However whenever i sit into the drivers seat the front of the headrest pops forward. Should this be happening? Also i was thinking of getting an upgraded head unit from a higher spec avensis. Would this be a straight swap out? Any info much appreciated. Thanks guys

The "active" headrest is pretty simple, there is a pressure sensitive pad in the lower back rest which when pushed in, acts on a bowden cable running up through the seat and causing the headrest pad to move forwards all perfectly normal.

As for head unit the simple answer is no, it's not always a straight swap cabling varies depending on trim levels due to things such as Microphone for phone/bluetooth, GPS antenna, Antenna type, Reverse camera, amplifiers etc.

Thanks Devon Aygo for putting my mind at ease. I think ill just put an aftermarket bluetooth system in and drive on. While i have you when i push up gearstick to select reverse it sticks in the up position. I have to physically push it down. When i remove the gearknob id no issues. The gearknob isnt after market its toyota and looks very new actually. Im wondering has anybody come across a fix for this.. thanks again

Just for anybody following this thread. I took off the gear knob and had a good look at it. On the inside there is a slight collar protrusion from the manufacturing process i presume. I pared it back with a new stanley blade and problem solved. Happy days
