Yaris MPG problem......?

Hello everyone,

I have a 2002 Yaris 1.3 Auto.  According to the on-board computer I'm only getting between 33 and 34.5 mpg which seems low to me for a small car.  It's had a recent service (oil & filter, spark plugs and air filter etc).  The exhaust was blowing from the back box but I have repaired this with gun gum and it seems/sounds to be holding.  I know the 4 speed autos won't be as economical as the 5 speed manual but it still seems low. The car seems to be running very well and only has 70k on the clock.  Any advice would be very welcome...thanks

Hi, this mpg is absolutely normal for your car, can’t expect more. You need to calculate tank full to full otherwise on board computers sometimes are not very accurate.

In Autumn when it is cold , short journeys mean high fuel usage..

I you are doing journeys of less than 7-10 miles, or around town then your mpg is normal..

If motorway driving , you should average over 40,,

Check tyre pressures, tracking (tyres worn more on one side ).. and the brakes are not binding  (jack up and spin wheel by hand..)

But as it is an auto, you will never do very well around town...
