Yaris Hybrid (66) Smart Entry

Hello, new owner of the Yaris Hybrid (66 plate). This is my first car and so far LOVING it!

I believe it is the Icon trim level however, I admit I am not 100% certain. I am sure I recall the for sale listing (Toyota approved garage) said it had smart entry but for the life of me can’t get it working. This leads me to believe I’m either mistaken (it possibly referenced the smart start system) and it isn’t fitted.

Are there any obvious marks or buttons on the car that are only present when smart entry is fitted? There is a setting in the Touch 2 system settings that references “Smart entry / start system” however this could just be a generic setting description regardless of one or both features being installed.

I have checked the manual and it refers to the smart entry system but it caveats it (*if installed).

thanks in advances folks 👍

Smart entry should be automatic unlocking of the doors once you grab the door handle. So with key in your pocket, lock the car, and try unlocking it that way.

Point is that you don't have to work with key fob at all to stop/start/lock/unlock the car.

Hi, that’s what I’ve been expecting to happen and it doesn’t open / unlock as I’d expect. I have to then manually unlock the door by pressing the unlock button on the key remote.

I guess what I’m trying to determine is

1) Is keyless entry fitted to the vehicle? (Hence are there any distinct marks / buttons only present when keyless entry is installed)

And,

2) If so, is there a fault with the entry system, the smart remote / key, or both.

If you have smart entry there should be a section on the front of the door handles marked with about 3 horizontal bars that you touch with a finger to lock the car.  On some models it's on the side, some have two such areas on the top and bottom of the handle.

If you have these marks and it doesn't seem to work, it's possible a previous owner may have disabled it in the vehicle settings menus on the centre screen.  If you don't have smart entry, these options will be greyed out (if they are shown).

Some people disable this because of all the relay thefts in the news.  Some people put their keys in Faraday pouches at home for this reason, but I disable my key when I get home (hold lock, press unlock twice at the same time).  When I go to get in the car, pressing either button on the key reinstates the key.

You only get smart entry with the push button start, if you have an ignition key that you start the car with it doesn't have it, it was an option on all models and standard on the excel

you can set the locking in the customise menu on the touch2

If you have the start button but have to put the fob near the button to start the car - either the Battery in the fob has gone flat, its a cr2032 Battery and they are around £2 for a Duracell or Energizer - on the dash, on the left you have a key symbol green is good, Red is bad

or

it has been turned off

I wonder if we get smart entry?

Push button start, but we always use the fob to lock and unlock.

How does smart entry work?  Do we have it?

2014 64 plate Excel.

Mick, this is exactly my experience so far! I have push button start ( and have had no issues with the functionality starting the car ).

Might just give the dealership a call - believe they can look up the trim and installed extras using the VIN.

My Hybrid Icon is the same Push Button start but no lines on the door handle so I assume I do not have the full smart entry ,  I lock and unlock using the buttons on the key fob

For that year of Yaris, Smart entry was Excel level trim only.

The Icon Hybrid may well have push to start, but no smart entry i'm afraid.

No marks on ours.  I'll be experimenting later today.

I doubt we have Smart Entry, but I'll still try!

Tried it.  No, we don't have it!
