Hi all,

I have a Yaris 2010 1.0 VVTi 1KR-FE engine, its got 62k miles on the clock and is coming up to 10 years old (60 plate late Jan registered). The question is when should I start to think about timing chain replacement as I am not sure on the interval I think it is 100k miles or 10 years? Has anyone else had any issues with timing chains or am I wasting my time worrying? Only asking because I want to keep the car in as mint condition to last me a long time.

BTW the car is mint, I brought it in Jan 2019, 1 old man owner from new, full Toyota service history, never failed an MOT

No need to ever change the chain, if you ensure it is regularly serviced (oil changes) then the chain will never need replacing

Contrary to the previous post, they do wear out, but not until you have covered many many more miles, or unless the oil service isn't regularly done. You will know if you have a problem as you will hear the sloppy chain when the engine is running. So as the adage says, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If It serviced correctly you will get 200k+ miles out of a chain, it's poor quality oil and the lack of changes that kills chains and tensioners
