Hi peeps, probably a bit of a long shot but I am in need of a crankshaft holding /locking tool for a 1az-fse engine. The only thing I have to go on is its a flat bar according to the Haynes. Does anyone know what this is, a picture would be great!

I have mega bubbles in the expansion bottle, so am thinking the head has gone, hopefully just the gasket.

BTW, it's a 2001 2L avensis CDX estate x

Thanks Flash22, that helps, although I don't think I'll be getting the full kit, it costs more than the car did!

I think there's going to have be some A team inventiveness if this is going to get back on the road again!

Thanks again,

If this is to release the front pulley I always use an impact wrench to shock them free - works on most cars. Mark the bolt first so you can tighten it to the same position. Again use impact wrench to tighten.

Thanks guys, having read on a bit, I can take out the starter and lock the flywheel, not a problem. But then it goes on to say the sump needs to come off and the engine mount so it has to be supported from the top.

After all the work to get the auxiliaries off and now this just to get the head off I am thinking it's never worth it.

I don't want to scrap it and I spent out for a new rad only a little while back but am thinking it's less work to put a whole new engine in!

Does anyone know any short cuts to get the head off?
