Only chargers working with smart meters are being fitted, they will allow remote disconnection and will control when you charge.

Going forward car charging will be limited grid load, imaging getting home at 5pm and plugging in car and getting the message charging will be started at 1am, but i need to collect the kids at 9pm and the car hasn't got the range for round trip to collect them.

No, that is not the case, but believe what you will. This really isn't the thread to discuss this.

DAB just isn't that good in the UK. Toyotas software is terrible I agree, it is just not intuitive. BMW certainly get that bit right.

I'm not trying to defend Toyota here. I am currently very miffed at their lack of response with a support issue I currently have. Responses where they have requested an image from my radio that I have already sent twice and if they took more than a second to look they would see it in the thread. IMO they are blooming awful, but so are most other brands.

I am an IT specialist but one with an electronics background. I have quite a deep understanding of the limits of DAB and honestly feel we have a terrible network in the UK. I understand they needed to go digital to free up bandwidth. DAB transmitters have increased but so have mobile phone transmitters, freeview transmitters and a lot more besides. Back in 2012 the airwaves were far less noisy than they are now which is well known to have affected digital services. We all remember the freeview filters that many of us have had to fit after the launch of 4G, DAB is suffering now and things are not improving.

DAB or other issues with the head unit should be the subject of a separate topic.

Stationary, tuned into a couple of stations:

Ensemble Station Signal
BBC National DAB BBC Radio 1 OK
D1 National Smooth UK OK
Smooth UK No signal
LBC News No signal
SDL National Absolute Rad 90s OK
talkRADIO OK
Central Scotland Pure Radio No signal
Glasgow BBC Scotland OK
Capital Scotland OK

All worked at my home, 1.5 miles away.

On "D1 National" Smooth UK worked, changed stations then didn't work, also "LBC News" didn't. "SDL national" was OK.

If I tried this everywhere it changes all the time, stationary, moving, doesn't matter it's unstable.

How do i re-tune the radio and calibrate out component and environmental drift?

Found a service menu, can't find installation / re-turn menu

The Radio update was part of the RetroFit, I was hoping for it to fix it.

When you said BMW dab was brilliant do you mean it worked ?

VW wasn't as good but better than Toyota ?

Had 2015 Suzuki Vitara (Older than Mk 5 RAV4) and no complaint about dab reception, it just worked ALL the time. Only failed 40+ miles south of Glasgow in middle of nowhere (as expected), never lost signal in central belt.

Had the ACP/AA update yesterday as part of the first service. All seems to be working well from initial tests and the home screen map now orientates to match the main Map screen. So very happy.

Motorline said  there is a cut-off date for 2019 RAV4 cars to receive the MM19 update. This meme says that all XA-50 cars built before this date (the agent was unable to define it or give a VIN) are stuck at MM17 because the hardware won't accept the update. However....

.....somewhere in the 12 preceding pages it's been suggested that the update will work on ALL Mk 5 vehicles, and that only the 2019 Icon is excluded. Does anyone know which (if any) of these interpretations is correct? My car is a FWD Excel handed over in June 2019 and currently suffering numerous problems with bluetooth connectivity, Nav performance and failed map updates.

There is no cut off date and any car applicable for the upgrade can have it, there is a cost involved however.

There is one set of Rav4 built between Oct18 & Sept19 with a T1 version DensoTen head unit that cannot have an upgrade due to a hardware issue, in the UK this would be an early Icon model.

There is no reason why your Excel can't be upgraded to have the MM19 update but if you didn't want to pay for MM19 there are updates available for MM17 units the latest being:

MM17 Meu 1550

MM17 Dcu 1042

Map 2020v2

I can confirm that only ICON without Sat Nav cannot have the upgrade. If it has Sat Nav, like mine, it can have the update. It works really well.

Thanks Devon Aygo and BigR1ch for the information.

Funnily enough I received a telephone call this afternoon from the same source at Motorline. He said he wanted to "clarify" what he'd told me yesterday in that my car can actually be updated. I am now waiting for TCR Exec Office to deal with my other problem with the maps update which (allegedly) needs to be done first.

Are people generally having good experiences with the new version?

Map version has to be 2018 v1 or newer, if older the update USB will not be recognised by the head unit

In general yes, however there have been a few issues which Toyota tech support have been terrible about and just gone quiet. I’ll visit a dealer and hope they can fix that bit. In my case I have lost the Google search facility when not using ACP. While it may seem petty, I cannot always plug my phone in for various reasons. So having the functionality that is advertised and was there until the upgrade would be preferable.

Other little things have changed too. Before, if the phone was not plugged in but connected, a long press on the voice button would activate Siri, that too no longer works. It works if you are using ACP.

Here are plenty of improvements though, such as the map on the Home Screen staying in the format set on the map screen. Lots of small things that work really well. Well worth the upgrade IMO, especially as it got done for free for me.

I am pleased to report that Toyota Customer Relations eventually picked up this problem and issued a Case No. after a brief exchange of emails. Not so happy to report that, after a full day in the workshop, the local dealer has been unable to upgrade the maps, hence MM17 not upgraded either. It was tentatively suggested that it might need a new head unit. Collecting it tomorrow unfixed, but at least now it's officially Toyota's problem rather than mine. Thanks for the tips. Watch this space.

Hi everyone, Quick Question.

Since having the update I've noticed that if you select audio on the head unit, after about 20 seconds the screen reverts back to the home screen.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

Posted

This is the default setting (update resets the headunit), you need to look in settings and disable 'return to home screen' or similar.

Hi, I booked my 2019 RAV4 AWD Hybrid in for a service and the Apple Car Play and Android Auto upgrade. They said that I could either have ACP or AA, not both. I checked with Toyota UK and they said that both are installed in the upgrade. I then checked with another dealer and they explained that they would only enable ACP or AA and to change from one to the other is a dealer settings task.

Can someone explain what they are saying please? Has anyone had the upgrade installed and experienced this or and can the owner change it from one to the other. Thanks

That doesn't sound right at all ...

I have a 2020 model so have had Apple Car Play and Android Auto from the outset. Via the General Settings menu - SETUP > General > Preferred Service - I can select one of four options: Toyota Online, Apple Car Play, Android Auto or Off. I can only select / use at most one of these services at a time  but it is a user selectable option rather than a dealer settings task.

I find it hard to believe (well sad if not so hard) that the upgraded system wouldn't function the same way but, obviously, the dealer can only select one of the four options once they have performed the upgrade. You cannot have both Android Auto and Apple Car Play running concurrently.

That said, surely you want to use either Android Auto or Apple Car Play? So get your dealer to do the upgrade and just see what you get back ... 😉

Both dealers are wrong, the update adds both Apple carplay & Android auto in one go and once installed you can use either without requiring a dealer to switch

Yes I can confirm with Devon Argo that this is correct in the settings you choose where ACP or AA is used. Those Dealers need education.
