cd player help .check cd

hello, i have just bought a Avensis Tspirit D-4D 2008.

I am female and don't have a clue about cars.

the car has a satnav/cdplayer and when I first drove the car I put a cd in and it played fine but I just tried to play cd again and it keeps saying check cd?

I,m not sure what is wrong, is cd player broken? have I pressed some buttons that has stopped it working?

the radio works fine but when I press disc nothing plays.i take cd out and put back in but it says check cd.

am I using it right. do I just put cd in the player slot then it should play automatically.

I wonder if someone can help a clueless female. thankyou so much.
