On a 2009 Toyota prius 20 series where is the transmission filter so it can be changed and a

transmission service done?  Can not find where filter is/goes. Is there a filter for it as cannot find where transmission fluid goes to add.

I'm assuming that this is a Gen3 rather than a late model Gen2.

This Youtube video should help.

There is no oil filter for the box, and the oil change is not listed as part of the standard Toyota service schedule.

I would suggest having a 10mm (best check this is 10mm) hex (Allen key type) socket driver with a 3/8" or 1/2" drive socket set.  Trying to use an Allen (hex) key will make this job much harder and you won't be able to use a torque wrench when doing it up.

The fill and drain plugs release with a surprisingly sudden crack, so best to work out what your knuckles will be hitting in advance!

Don't forget to undo the filler plug first, just in case you can't get it off after the box has drained.

The Toyota WS (World Standard) ATF you will need is not much dearer than oil from a motor factors and is available via eBay from Toyota dealers for about £10.50 a litre.  It is not unique to this box, it fits loads of modern Toyota transmissions, so shouldn't be hard to buy.

That tool description above is a bit mangled.

I mean one of these would be useful:-

As opposed to one of these:-

By "20 series" I would assume they mean NHW20, i.e. Gen 2.

Gen 3 is ZVW30.

I thought it just might be some unusual limited edition model!  If it had been called an NHW20 then I would probably have worked out that wasn't a trim variant!  Makes perfect sense.  I'd had only had 3 hrs sleep by Sunday morning (Christmas!).  Nothing is obvious in that state.  Thanks.
