Speedo/instrument cluster

Hi all,

On my Aygo 2010 vvt-I 3 door 1.0  I have an intermittent fault on indicator display (does not affect actual indicator just the display on cluster) they work sometimes but other times faint or not at all. Had a good fiddle with wires at back but to no avail. Was thinking of putting a new speedo/instrument unit in. 
will this affect the mileage or is that stored in the ECU?
