central locking on passenger door fault

Evening everyone and merry Christmas.

Can anyone help. We have 2 yaris in our family and both have developed the same fault. When I lock the car with the button on the key, the passenger side doesn`t lock, it try`s to, and will lock if I rest a finger on the lock button on top of the door and press the key button. It un-locks fine.

I`ve removed the door card and tried to remove the lock mechanism, but I couldn`t remove it from the door. I got to the stage where the lock was free to slide down but was still attached to the exterior handle and I couldn`t see how to disconnect it, or ,if I could, how to slide it out past the window runner....it`s right in the way.

I sprayed the lock and solenoid with penetrating oil and re-assembled the door, but not had any success with the door locking.

Has anyone any ideas ???

Does the door lock via putting the key in the door ? Does the door lock if you press the lock button inside the car

What year Yaris ?

It`s a 2005 yaris, there`s no key slot in the passenger side door, and yes it locks from the inside. The penetrating oil I sprayed all over has seemed to ease the locking by hand....but not enough to get it to lock with the central locking.
