Thanks flash22, I’m from the UK but my area is not listed, my daughters 2014 registered (2013 model) Yaris trend has the head unit with the cd slot at the top (020 ?) but the navigation unit is not installed but have the chance to purchase a 334 navi unit but not sure if this unit will work with the 020 head unit, the other option would be purchase the 160 head unit which I believe will work with the 334.

I'm not sure about those model numbers pre 2014 will be a touch (6 button, 86140-0D020) 2014 onwards is the touch2  be aware there are 2 navi units early and late

If you look at my post i linked too, that is the later Touch2 nav module, the touch navi module has different connectors - Also the hybrid uses a specific Touch/touch2 (programmed with the hybrid info screens

later module (from 2014) - note the small white plug

Early Module (2011 - 2013)

The unit ending 020 is the 2011-mid 2014 and the unit ending 160 is mid 2014 >

the early head unit used navi ending 331 which I think is the one in your photo , the later head unit I believe used navy ending 334 .

I think I’ll just whip the radio out and see what we’ve got.

cheers.

  • 2 months later...

Does anyone know the difference between a 86140-0D160 and a 86140-0D400 radio head. I have changed my radio head twice in my Yaris 2015. First to a 86140-0D180 to get the dab radio. I found that I was struggling with reception. I was using stick on aerials that never really worked. Eventually I ran a co-ax all the way through the car to the bee sting aerial. This gave me a lot more stations that rarely drop out. I found that  it would only show about 4-5 pages of radio stations, if I manually tuned It, I would get many more stations.  In between I had fitted the nav unit and regularly updated it. When I installed the 86140 -180 , it was from a hybrid and the first time I switched it on it showed a hybrid logo. The next time it switched on, the screen changed from blue to orange and the hybrid logo vanished. Recently I saw that the 2019 YarIs had a 86140-0D400. This has very different chrome buttons but otherwise no difference in size or connections. I installed and left the nav unit that came with it in the car. This brought up a very different device I.D.  I put my nav unit back in and it immediately brought up all the right settings including settings for Toyota account etc. I needed this so that I can still update. Yet again the same trick, the hybrid logo disappeared  but now the background colour stayed blue. I now had it showing 14 pages of stations and it was much more responsive when switching stations.

My aim is to eventually fit a Toyota radio head that will allow CarPlay. So my question is, what is the difference between these units?

Its just the later radio it's the same system on newer hardware, once you plug in the nav box it overrides the touch2, iirc you can use most touch2 nav units with the any touch2

as for the hybrid thing the stereo talks to ecu over can bus

the dab is very sensitive the coax needs to be in 1 run with the correct connectors, installed correctly also the aerial base is different as the amp is tuned for dab reception

The mk3 will never get AA or AC so if you want that, go with an aftermarket unit they start at £300 for the likes of Pioneer or Alpine

eg. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-sph-da120-apple-carplay-compatible-with-large-6-2-inch-capacitive-touch-screen-gps-bluetooth-android-iphone-and-mirrorlink-also-supports-appradio-mode

We should see the New MK4 sometime this year depending on when the French factory opens again
