Hello,

I'm new on this forum and couldn't find a 'introduce yourself' section... so this is my first message here on the forum.
My name is Rogier and I'm from The Netherlands. Since 1 week I own a 2006 Corolla 1.6 VVTi S-line which literally has been from an old man! 33500 Km on the clock and the car is like new. Always stood indoors. Lucky me. Had to buy a car as I switched jobs and had to turn in my lease.

Yesterday I opened up the dashboard to insert an Atoto A6 Pro android radio in it. Actually al went pretty smooth. GPS and microphone wires in the left A-style of the car and de DAB+ receiver wires in the right A-style.

Now everything is together I have 3 small issues; there is still some space between the center console and the radio/blower section, the light behind heating control is not working anymore/yet and the final issue is the 'internal air' knob (don't know the name in English) is not returning back after pushing it. Does there have to be a spring behind it??

Some images to make it more easier to understand.. 😉

Upper red marking marks the place where the spacing is, lower marking is the knob that doesn't get back in place after pushing it.

Hope you guys here, with loads of Corolla experience can help me to fix it. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Rogier,

Welcome to the forum.

Looks a nice conversion, something I have been considering, be interesting to know the make of  the double din fascia plate/housing as it looks a good fit.

Looking at my console there is a gap of about 3mm between the radio unit and the heater control panel, though not really visible when in a normal seated position.

Perhaps some self adhesive black foam tape positioned before you press the panels back into position might work ..?

According to the Haynes manual that switch can be unplugged from the back of the unit, so it might be avaiable as a Toyota spare on its own,  it also contain a wedge  type bulb.

Probably the bulb has blown or the plug/wiring needs reseating ?  cannot find anything to suggest it has its own fuse.

As for the switch not returning,  does it work ok when the outer black panel/cover is removed, could it be catching on the outer panel ?

A bit of switch cleaner or silicone spray to lubricate things ?

Something you do not mention that has caused problems for such conversions it the  Re-connection of the steering wheel controls, not sure if it is possible on these Android units, this recent post highlights the problem, though the poster has never come back to say if they got it working ?

As well as this Corolla forum, also worth checking the Audio section  - https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/forum/19-audiovideoelectronics/

Another thing  often missed on routine services and worth checking /replacing  is the pollen filter, located behind / after removing the glove box.

Thanks for your reply! I just unmounted everything, also to line up the radio a bit better. I discovered the bulp was having a bad contact. Just touching the white plastic holder was making it flashing on and of. As I do not have a spare yet to replace I managed to cover it up again with the light on.. yes!!

The know is working fine without the panel. It sprayed it with silicon, didn't make much change, but the knob is better positioned now and it works ok for me now. Probably some error in lining it out last time.

As for the steeringwheel controls; I don't have them working right now, but my wiring does support it! Had to connect them myself and wasn't that eager to get it done als I don't like the controls on the wheel very much. Those controls feel cheap and 'old'... 😉

Apart from the Atoto radio i managed to find a 2 din frame especially for the E12 Corolla. It matches great and comes also with Corolla wiring (except the steering controls).

Try this link, there are multiple manuals, some might be in Spanish, some are in english.

Just click on the model > contents  > index2.html or similar.

Some older manuals require to be opened in Internet Explorer / Edge (or just have your browser identify, some addons have this if you browser does not have it by default)

Hi,

Thanks for the links, seems you have got most of it working ok now .

Found replacing my front Speakers and using door mounted tweeters (Pioneers)  gave a really good sound improvement.

The Haynes printed manual is good for most things including routine servicing.  https://haynes.com/en-gb/toyota/corolla/2002-2007

This link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h61621895vjxz2m/AAD9M5EsZoYdkfs7zK6orixLa?dl=0 is for a 2004 US model which can be of some general help though some differences to our 1.6 eu model.

Thanks! Just ordered the printed version at Haynes

Hello guys, my name is Giuliano and I'm from Sweden, for a couple of mounths ago I purchased a Corolla e12 from 2005 and I installed an Atoto A6 on it. Everything it's working except the steering wheel controls, do any one knows how to wire the steering wheel controls to the Atoto? Much appreciate.

Best regards

Giuliano
