Slow changing of gears ? Major trouble ?

Hi

I have a 2010 Yaris 1.3 with a MMT gear box.

Over the last week, the car has started making a louder noise while driving,struggling to pick up good pace and takes about half a minute to change from reverse gear to neutral and again does it  with a louder noise.

I took it to my local garage and he suggested I take it to my main Toyota dealer as apparently there was a problem with the gear box  - slow to change gears.

I am not good with mechanics but really worried that it may mean hundreds on major repair to the gear box  :(

Some where I read about a button to reset the MMT gear box,etc. Is that something silly or does it apply to my problem?

Anyone with experience or advice to suggest anything before I make that trip to the dealer?

It's not a simple press of a button, i wouldn't go anywhere near a main dealer with a car of this age, it may want a new clutch i would take it to a gearbox specialist

Thanks flash22. The local chap also mentioned that although the revs were going up the speed wasn't catching up.

Would you know the rough estimate for a clutch replacement for this car if done by a gear box specialist? Thanks. Megan :)

Prices car vary greatly, the gearbox may have other issues like the clutch actuator problem

You cannot just change the clutch. The gearbox needs specialist resetting.. after a clutch change..

 

DO NOT take it to any garage: it requires a specialist in the MMT gearbox to sort it. Even Toyota dealers are ignorant of it..

 

It is unlikley there is any specialist knowledge of it on this forum as it was notoriously difficult  to solve faults and the advice is not to buy ..

The MMT gearbox has been a bug bear to many owners, good whilst it works, but too often they prove problematic.       
Have you owned the car for just a short time? That could be a life line for you, owned for such a short time you could pass the problem back to the previous owner.

Madasafish: Please see the pdf i posted, that is the manual procedure for most Toyota MMT boxes, Most main dealers aren't interested in anything over 4-5 years old, and don't retain knowable staff as there not willing to pay what their worth, in essence the Main Stealers become parts swappers or spill and fill merchants

An issue is only as complex as you make it or interpret the information, error codes are just a symptom not the issue

There is a lot of misinformation on forums/internet and OEM data is not gospel
