Installing DAB antenna in 2009 Auris?

Hi,

I'm thinking of replacing the stock 2009 Auris stereo with an updated DAB radio (we're 100% DAB now in Norway). But I'm a bit intimidated when it comes to running the antenna through the dash, out the top, and up onto the windshield. Has anyone done this successfully? Photos? Video?

When you remove the stereo and the glovebox, you get plenty of room to move cables around, you can then just tuck them between the A pillar and the bodywork, no need to take anything apart.

I had to take the whole dash apart to replace a steering module, it's not that hard to do, but i think in your case there's no need.

You can take a look at this topic i made last year, it has PDF from toyota how to remove the whole dash, or just some part.

If you will be removing A pillar plastic covers, be sure to disconnect Battery and wait for 10 minutes, as there are airbags inside. It pops out fairly easily, but there's a trick how to to it, as there is a special plastic clip that you need to twist with needle nose pliers. It's in the topic, there should be a youtube video showing how it's done.

Definitely want to avoid disassembling stuff. Okay, so you're saying I remove the glovebox (I'm planning to purchase the car, don't own it yet, so I can't go look at it in person right now) which I assume just involves a couple of screws, and then I can directly pull the antenna from the stereo area through the glovebox area and then push it up through the top right corner (for a left-hand drive car) once I've popped off the A pillar cover? I've never removed the A pillar in a car, but I'm assuming this just exposes a small space down into the glovebox? Thanks for your help!

No screws, you just open the glovebox, there is tiny shock absorber on it on the left side i think, it makes it open slowly, you just push it to the side, and then you put the glovebox even more down, and pull it out, it only has 2 clips. It's a 30 second job.

Replacing the radio too is not a hard job, the plastic trim around the radio pops out, then you can see the screws that hold it in place.

I dont think you need to remove the A pillar plastic, you can just tuck the cables between the plastic trim, pull it from the radio through the glovebox, then down around the fusebox,  when you open the door, you can start tucking it in in, from the bottom up.

Awesome, thanks for your response. I'm probably complicating this more than necessary. Sounds like I can just push the cable up from the glovebox area through the corner of the dash and then tuck it behind the A pillar trim without doing much else. I'll give it a go and let you know if it doesn't work. Thank you!
