I am replacing my Auris Hybrid ('cat' was stolen too) 😞

And thinking of buying the Auris 1.2t

Though, I am worried if thieves also target non-hybrids

So, started this poll to find out

Figures will be interesting reading (would be great if a other models can be included too, bug which forum to put in?)

Plenty of Lexus owners targetted according to the Toyota blog 😲

Yaris owners none reported yet?🤔

But, I know one was stolen 😲

But, what about non-hybrids? 🤔

Went out after 2, by then the weather had calmed down. The trees had stopped bending, about an hour after getting back home it’s picked up again lol

The car is fine apart from that missing bit of plastic, only have that as mum got rid of hers.
there wasn’t much point in having a car and it not being used much, one shopping trip, plus it was me driving it. At 85 she struggled walking to the car,

I bought an ebike so I might use that when the weather is better for going to work. Use it more in peddle only mode to get more exercise and use the power for step hills

New controller and display £25.

The bike is Chinese and so doesn’t matter that the upgrades are too 😁

Well

After a few days, only 2 TOC members (including myself) had their Auris 'cat' nicked

So, cant be that many Auris's targetted then... 🤔

I have heard of Honda owners over this side of the pennies having cats stolen. So I think it’s bigger problem that doesn’t get enough media attention.

I was back at Toyota again...

Asked: Will the Auris 1.2t or Yaris Hybrid been targetted?

They "not that I am aware of, both cars the 'Cat' is nearer the bulkhead, harder to get to, but not impossible..."

Hmmm....shall I get a Toyota Hybrid?

Which means I am BACK with Toyota, but with a SMALLER, LESS POWERFUL and still potentially a HYBRID TARGET? 🤔

There seems to be an outbreak of BMW airbag thefts as well which are easier to steal than Cats.  3 BMW's local to me were targeted in one night.

The big issue is there's been no better time to be a thief! Theft from vehicles is not even being investigated, it's just being recorded.

Hi Wayne,

to get a better picture whether a certain model may become a target it is a good idea to chat with metal recycling depot or metal traders who buys scrap metal. They are the main problem, they order to thieves what to steal and from what make, model. Toyota hybrids are well known for higher amount of those metals and are super easy to cut. Few years ago the hottest nick was Mercedes sprinter, my neighbour has one and said to me that they had 20 cats nicked in one night from their depot in Watford, we just don’t know what it’s going to be next. Usually thieves most popular targets from Toyota are:

1. Prius all years

2. Prius plus

3. Auris hybrid gen 2

4. Auris Hybrid gen 1   -    those are little bit less common to become a theft object due to the fact that there are very popular as non hybrid variations 1.33, 1.6, 1.4d and 2.2d , there are almost no videos how one of those are done, ours gone, but when bad luck comes we can’t do anything, even though I could have installed a plates earlier might have deter them but who knows. Also once the car has no auris and hybrid signs looks like Yaris for many people, I have already a garage that could not find the model and we’re looking for a something around the doors, I did ask them what are you guessing for and they replied: what models is that Toyota, Yaris, Corolla or what. Funny 😁

We can predict the future

But, only can guess based on the latest intel and then judge by probability...

As long as I take an INFORMED decision approach (for now avoid Prius/Auris, even though next month 'cat' theft maybe all time low), decide next best safe/reliable car (even though next month can be FAVOURITE car be it for 'cat', airbags or just that it happened to be parked in the wrong place)!

My choices are still (as of today at 8:40am! 🙂 :

01. Prius gen3 - but ruled out :lol

02. Yaris Hybrid

03. Auris 1.2t

04. Skoda Rapid

05. Skoda Superb
