Why 5w40.?..I have never used anything but 5w30.

But I have the 1mz-fe 3 litre engine...yours.?

Check your owners manual, it should list acceptable oil weights.

I've assumed he doesn't have one, Dean....but there should some indication out there on the WWW.

In the English translation handbook there is no mention of 5w40. Only 5w20 for 1mz-fe and 10w30 for 2az-fe. Why would you not want to use the recommended oil for the engine??

Probably on sale or something. 

Only issue might be harder starting due to thicker oil, but if it's a gasoline car, should be fine.

Once warmed up, it should be no problem. You should have better lubrication, but mpg will suffer, until warmed up.

Me too, Tony...though different markets/sources tend to throw up slightly different specs...I've seen both 5w20 and 5w30 recommended for mine but I've always used 5w30 with no issues..it's a good all-rounder I think
