Toyota judged for misleading marketing

I Norway, it's forbidden for Toyota to claim that the hybrids are selfcharging, since it gives the impression, that the electricity comes free of charge.

The Consumer Inspectorate concludes that this use was not within: 
“… produces the power itself; charges when you release the gas, 
when you slow down, yes, even while driving ”.

The Consumer Authority's conclusion, which became clear on 6 December,
is clear:

- It is misleading to give the impression that the power to the hybrid 
Battery is free of charge, since the electricity produced by the car 
has the consumption of gasoline as a necessary condition, the Consumer 
Authority writes in the conclusion.

Several complainants have registered the marketing (see facsimile main 
picture and below) in Dagens Næringslivs D2 magazine, in Aftenposten's 
A magazine and in Stavanger Aftenblad.

- The Consumer Authority registers that the accused marketing took 
place as late as 29 November in Aftenposten's A-magazine, writes the 
Consumer Authority.
- This is reinspikka lie

One of the complainants themselves claims to be a Lexus owner and 
obviously appreciated very little marketing:

- Lexus and Toyota market their hybrids heavily as "self-recharging", 
without notifying customers that all energy used for charging comes 
from gasoline combustion. In its latest ads, Lexus even uses the phrase
"Lexus Offers the Power", this is purely spiked lie. As a Lexus owner, 
I pay dearly for this stream through the gas bill.

Another writes this:

- It is true that the power supplied to the batteries during 
regeneration during braking (including deceleration by releasing the 
gas) is "free", although this also comes from the motion energy 
generated by an internal combustion engine.

- But with the phrases "In Lexus hybrids, the power always costs the 
same: absolutely nothing" and "Our hybrids produce the power 
themselves ... yes even when driving" gives the ad the impression 
that the power that is produced when you drive, ie when you drive have 
a commission on the engine, is free. And that's completely wrong, a 
self-charging hybrid is no Perpetuum Mobile.

Utterly stupid IMO, political correctness at its most stupid. I understand a hybrid is self charging in as much it does not need to be plugged in to anything - never.        
One of the problems with electric vehicles is they need plugging in. What if you not got access to a plug ie tall block of flats. An electric vehicle is no use to you. The UK government brings forward the ban on sales of petrol and Diesel engines cars forward to 2032. Fine. When are they going to tell us when there will be more easily accessible charging points. Without loads of charging points people are not going to change to electric.  Or is the bus/train services going to improve to such an extent cars in general will not be needed - that would take a massive change, I won’t hold my breath.

An odd judgement for sure....can't imagine anyone would make that interpretation in respect of a self charging hybrid.

There's a danish forum, most members are engineers. Discussion about Toyota Hybrid marketing has been running wild the last week, and you just wont believe how "clever" these guys are. They know everything. Hybrid's a fake. Toyota are just making hybrids for "green washing", etc. etc. etc.

I would hate to be a car salesman, when a engineer walked in to my showroom, that's for sure.

I heard the other day that supermarket till operators sometimes get stuck from more educated clever ones who look down on till operators as pieces of muck. Shocking attitude, but what seems to be a growing trend today’s society.
