Yarris (vitz) making weird sound

Strange sound comes and goes in the engine. Its like a whirring sound which will start high pitched and then go lower and lower 

Mechanic thought it was a water pump issue, so had it replaced then but no luck!!!

Take the serpentine belt off, start the engine, if sound goes, its something the belt drives, if not, probably engine. Don't leave the engine running too long with the belt off, it may overheat.

That's either the water pump or alternator, if the belts is over tightened it can kill the alternator bearings,  take the belt of and feel is there is any play in the bearings

 

yep that's alternator whine - remove plug (2/3 pin plug) from the alternator and it should go away - then plug it back in
