Well if they say they want to write it off your insurance will pay out the value (as they see it!) and you can buy it back from them and repair it yourself.

Is there any damage on the rear wings?

no damage to the rear wings .. its just the bumper had pushed in an inch or two near the boot lock .. the grill hiding the exhaust was bent and a bit of Vauxhall paint on the exhaust ..

The bumper now has no padding inside .. so it's bounced back, but has nothing inside and is well squashy ..

Looks like the clips on the lights are knadgered too .. as they are not fastening proper due to bits missing ..

At least I'm not hurt .. and the guy seemed okay (and very apologetic) about it .. glad to see the MR2 can take a knock or two ..

was a stock bumper mind you, perhaps an aftermarket one wouldnt have fared so well?

Aftermarket doesn't have the foam etc in .. it would have exploded with Fibre Glass everywhere ..

The stock one is a thin bubberish skin over a foam base .. so the foam takes the inpact and then the skin bounces back .. designed to take a knock ..

Push you bumper and it's solid .. mine now goes in quite a way ..

hit in the rears are clear cut - the other guy cant deny liability as he hit your stationary vehicle!

As for write off's the company I work for says the repairs must exceed 60% of the market value the day the impact happened, and even then you will only get market value.

Are you using ur own insurance and letting them deal or approaching the third party insurance directly?

BTW I work in Motor Insurance claims so if any questions let me know ;)

Still wouldnt work cos the fiberglass just shatters on impact anyway.

As jimlads bumper did when he mashed a rabbit yesterday!

May be an idea .. dunno how good it would have to be .. I know the expanding foam would be a bit pony ..

I'll chat to Matt @ Rogue about the stock ones .. see if they can have the foam removed and put into aftermarket ones ..

I think I'd like something there is absorb some inpact .. it's done it's job today .. no severe pain .. headache and a sore back, but no broken bones etc ..

I think my policy is for like for like replacements .. so we'll see, all depends on the price they recon for import pannels .. I know some go silly when they rear the words import ..

As I was saying .. I think £1500 and labour and it'll be fine .. I've got a 7k value on the car due to the mods ..

When someone drove into my 2, it was the worst feeling ever, I got out he car with my fists clenched without knowing it!.... It was on the frist day of me driving it....

I wish I had some good news, but it took from February 13th (when it happened) to the 9th June when the damage was fixed.

He admitted full liability straight away too..... Didn't cost me a penny, I just had to drive my mr2 with a dent in the door for the first 3 months.

Get your quotes form the most expensive garages.

Fo a fist-sized dent I got two quotes. One for £659 and one for £720.

and a bit of Vauxhall paint on the exhaust ..

You wanna get that wiped off before the insurance people assess the car......it'll knock hundreds off the value (well it does with Vauxhalls anyway)

Thanks for the concern peeps ..

I'll be on the phone today to garages .. The main cost will be the exhaust .. I know they are about £700 new .. then whatever Mr T. decides the cost of a new bumper is ..

At least it's still drivable .. but I'm not a fan of driving somehting with all the absorbtion taken out of the rear already ..

I dunno what the other guy was doing, I was more concered with getting my baby home. At least he was appologetic. No point getting p*ssed as what was done was done.
