Dear Forum 🙂,

I was doing some work today on my 2005 Toyota Corolla 1.4 D4D saloon and, to my surprise, noted that a wheel bolt was missing at the driver's side, rear.

Am I correct in thinking that a new wheel bearing kit is required to rectify this problem? Or, may a new wheel bolt be readily inserted without removing the wheel bearing?

Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me.

I interested in knowing why you think you need to change a wheel bearing. Not heard of that one before.

If the old bolt isn't broken in the hole, just get a new bolt.

Obviously, if there is a bolt snapped in the hole, you'll have to get it out first.

Stivino - thank you 🙂.

Someone told me that the rear wheel bolts come as part of a single unit of equipment (that includes the wheel bearing) that cannot be further broken down into smaller parts.

Doesn't the corolla use nuts if so you will have a stud the nut goes on

no need to pull the hub if its missing a stud, if it has rear discs just remove the Caliper and disc, put the new stud in the hole, use a spacer and nut to pull it into the hub

If the OP means wheel stud, that's a different thing altogether.

Maybe, that is why someone said a new hub was needed.

Excuse me - I ought to have stated wheel stud instead of wheel bolt. Apologies 🤭😳☺️.

My question still stands, if anyone is knowledgeable on the matter.

Thank you.

You should be able to buy one new stud, take the hub off, knock out old stud and put new stud in.

Just needs a simple call to your local Toyota dealer to see if its available from them as a part.

Quiet a few of the popular  big aftermarket part suppliers seem to list such studs, eg Micks Garage.

This vid shows how the studs are threaded then splined where they pass into the backplate,  seems brute force can do it or if the hub fully removed inserted by a press.etc.
