2nd black master key

Hi All,

I can't make a 2nd black master (spare) key!

I have had a blank cut at Timpsons, and fitted a 2nd hand transponder (from another Avensis), but neither the on/off in the ignition method, or via Techstream will set the second key - always says 'communication to the transponder has failed'

I have erased the other keys from the immobiliser, leaving just the one master key. I have tried 2 other transponders, also from Avenis but they won't work either... I'ts like the car will only accept 1 master key..

Any ideas?

Does it not need to be a virgin transponder chip to code into the BCU/immobiliser? They are pretty cheap, from what I remember.

No, the transponder in the key is set in the valeo factory, and the car learns the transponder code from key :-)

The immobiliser is supposed to remember 2 black master keys and 1 grey valet key.

using a blank transponder may be the way though, I could clone the one i have already with an aftermarket device..

That's the way I was going to do it, IIRC, but Timpson's said they wouldn't cut my key (they had already done them for me before) so I didn't want to give them 60 quid or more for one of theirs. That same branch had made a poor job on a key they did for me before, too. Other branches couldn't have been better service before then, but I never got around to getting a blank cut.
