Limp mode

Bought a 2005 Diesel Rav4 the other day drove it home without any problems next day started it up fine drove off after a short while some lights lit up saying VSC and TRC also the engine light was on followed by the car going into a sort of limp mode pulled over turned off the engine restarted it and drove off again fine for a while until it did it again a couple more times The code reader gave the code P1229 which seems to cover so many things from really bad to changing the fuel filter, hope we haven't bought a rotten Apple knowing my luck..After thinking long and hard about what it could be I decided to try and see if it would do it after I had got the car good and warm sure enough drove off and no probs at all.Thinking back to when I bought it the guy had the car running for sometime before we drove it coincidence maybe ? anyway still looking for some advice as I don't want to have to sit and wait all the time.... seems to be a temperature thing ?? Many thanks

If your buying a car privately, if the seller has started it before you arrive walk away

No he hadn't,he had to jump start it but kept it running for some time before we went out in it which is why it seems that once the car is warm there is no problem ??
